Since the housing boom on Cape Cod, real estate prices have soared. This has caused people here to be very “this is mine stay out”. I guess I can’t blame them with beachfront homes now priced in the millions of dollars range. It is kind of sad, when I was a kid you could walk the beach for miles without confrontations with uptight landowners. In 1999, actor Jim Belushi filed a criminal complaint against housepainter Franz Guest for walking across his beachfront in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. A jury acquitted Guest. Remember folks, you cannot prevent people from walking on your beach below the high tide line. Seaward of the mean high tide mark is public property no matter how much you paid for your beachfront home. (unless it is in the deed that you own below the mean high water mark)
