I remember Moby Dick’s well. In fact when I was in high school the white whale that used to be on the roof (next to where Molly’s Pub is today) was blown off by the winds of a winter storm and rolled down Route 28, headed for Hyannis on an Easterly wind. I seem to remember that the same white whale was stolen from it’s rooftop too, ...at least once.

  1. I hope you can help! About the Moby Dick Gift Shop as it was in the 60s.  Where is that whale today?  Did I see it on a miniature golf site towards Hyannis near Howard Johnson’s? Do you have any postcard of the store I can buy from you?  Thanks!

  2. I don’t think that is the same whale seen at the mini golf in West Yarmouth, but I am not positive. The one at the mini golf looks like it is made of concrete.??? Maybe someone else can chime in about what happened to the whale?

I have a pile of old postcards and pictures, but I don’t remember seeing any of Moby Dick’s. Sorry :-(

  3. I remember Moby Dick’s from back in the 70’s, it was the best ever! I read this post today and it’s the first I’ve heard of the place moving and the whale missing.I also remember they used to have a giant lobster mounted on a plaque in the dining area and the lofts were decorated with life boats, nets and all kinds of cool stuff. The gift shop was awesome too. I used to look forward to going there every year.I’m really going to miss that place!

  4. I remember Moby Dick’s!!!  Why they ever closed that place I’ll never understand.  Poor Moby now sits in a miniture golf course.  Ironically, prior to the store’s closing it also had (in the back of the store) a miniture golf course.  This was back in the 60’s I believe..I was in elementary school then.  My next door neighbor, who I have been great friends with for now over 40 years, mailed me a “Moby Dick’s” post card when we were kids…I still have it in my hope chest today…Wish you had an actual picture here….but it all brings back great memories just the same.

  5. Thanks for your note about Moby Dick!  Which golf course is it sitting on?  I would really really really like to note.  Please write back!  Thanks

  6. The golf course is on Rte 28 if you are heading from Hyannis TO West Yarmouth.  If you start at THE MILL STORE in Hyannis, I believe you will see it not too far down on the right…..I’m sorry I don’t know the name of golf course.  However, I know he’s there..I see him and it brings back such great memories.  Also, on facebook, they have a “Flair” (if you belong, “Flairs” are under applications)....the flair is a picture of Moby Dick now at the golf course.  Hope you get the chance to see him….I hope he’s not going anywhere else.  Good Luck and let me know how you make out.
