The Gay Nineties

The Gay Nineties was known as “The Fun Center of the Cape”. The building is still there on route 28 in West Yarmouth, but the Gay Nineties is long gone. When I was a kid the place was changed to “Dorsie’s”. Since then several businesses have taken it’s place.

Here is a description from the 70’s:

The Gay Nineties Restaurant and Cabaret Rte 28 West Yarmouth. If your mood is a search for fun and good food here is the place. Arrive for cocktails, dine, and be here for last call where the gaiety will be something to remember forever. Chef Urano will handle your favorite to its perfect best while you choose to enjoy the Black Horse Tavern with “The Worlds’ Greatest Banjo Band” and sing along to favorites, or the atmosphere of Shamrock Pub, with “The Maguires”. Enjoy ballads old and new familiar or not so familiar that will send you back to County Cork and dreams of the good old days. Here is a place to meet your friends for a night of fun, or come and meet new friends. Remember Shamrock Pub 6 til Midnight, dine with Chef Urano 6 til 11 pm, Black Horse Tavern 8 pm til 1 am.
