Looking to the North from Barnstable Harbor you can see the houses on the East end of Sandy Neck Beach. The old lighthouse which hasn’t operated in many years is also visible.

I’m a cape codder… born and raised. Sometimes I cry when I see all the changes that have taken place to this beautiful natural wonder that I was so blessed to be born a part of. The ocean becomes your blood, the sand your dermi… if your a “true cape codder” you know what I mean. Swimming in the Pocassett (Barlows) River, becoming a “cape cod mermaid” sort of the right of passage amoung cape cod girls. Being so lucky to have sailed these waters with my “hero” Capt. Bucky Barlow… the only man I called dad. I hope he knows the wonders of the sea that he instilled in this little girl’s heart. Becoming a fisherman to supplement my income, you live here.. you’ll never starve! and then marrying my fisherman, and having our own little cape codders, and instilling the values of life and the sea that where instilled in us.
It is pictures like this one… that take me back to “my cape cod” of small little houses and beaches that we all shared. No signs of “no tresspassing” anywhere. When everyone had a boat… even if it was just a rowboat. I miss that Cape Cod. Thank~you for this beautiful picture that brought back all the wonderful memories of “my cape cod”.
