A Foggy Story
In Harwich Port there used to live (they say) a man named Cap’n Bunce, who owned a little house. One foggy morning Cap’n Bunce set a Chatham man to work shingling his roof.
About noontime he took a look to see how his carpenter was doing. “Can’t understand it, Cap’n Bunce”, the man from Chatham said. “Been working like all gitout this morning yet I ain’t finished the first course.”
“Well, you are a lazy fellow!” exclaimed Cap’n Bunce. Then up the ladder he went, to see what the deuce was going on.
What do you suppose he found? He found that his carpenter had shingled two hundred feet right out onto the fog. (Fogs being pretty thick in Harwich Port in those days!)
