Don’t Wait for a Table
Here is a tip for avoiding that long wait for a table at a packed restaurant. As long as you are solo or in a small party (2 or 3 person maximum) and the restaurant has a bar, this trick will usually get you in past the doorman.
When approaching a restaurant where folks are waiting outside for a table (ie. the restaurant has reached maximum capacity and they aren’t letting any more patrons in) tell the doorman you are there to get take-out. Most restaurants will usually let you in if you say they that you are there to pick up a take-out order. More than 2 or 3 of you in a party, and all bets are off as to whether you get in.
Once inside, try to snag a seat at the bar when someone’s name gets called or get your name on the waiting list for a table.
