Cape Cranberries Led the Way
Cape Cod cranberries were one of the first of the so-called “convenience foods” which now represent such a large portion of the nation’s ready-to-serve food supplies.
The advent of canned cranberry sauce was destined to be a boon for millions of housewives. “The man behind the can” was Marcus L. Urann a leader in the Cape’s cranberry industry since way back in 1907. Marcus L. Urann formed the Ocean Spray agricultural cooperative in 1930 with two other cranberry growers. He probably never imagined that it would become the number-one producer of canned and bottled juices and juice drinks in the country.
