Here are a couple tidbits of info from records of a century and a half ago:
Falmouth — Arrived, April 1, Ship Commodore Morris, Jones, Pacific ocean, 2000 bbl. sperm, 100 do whale oil.
Boston - R. B Forbes announces that the Humane Society has placed lifeboats in 15 places along our coasts, including boats at Monomoy and at Chatham and at Nauset near the lights. “All are furnished with India rubber cylinders, fastened by battens to the outside of the boats.”
