Free Horse With Used Buggy
It is safe to think that many folks today do not know what a “buggy” was. It was the forerunner, so to speak, of today’s used auto. And if readers think that today’s used car or brand new one is well supplied with accessories, let them read the following advertisement from the Boston Globe of the year 1900:
TAKE NOTICE — Lady going away will sell her top buggy, cost $250 9 months ago, has just been newly varnished, all in first class condition; good carryall, custom harness, summer and winter robe, street and stable clothing, whip, halter, and pretty foot mat.
All this property will be sold for $100 cash, provided the buyer will take my horse into the country; he is safe and kind for an old lady or any aged gentleman, to drive, he is very pretty and stylish, 7 years old, 1000 lbs. and very steady rider; he doesn’t shy or jump on the road; he will stand and wait for lady to get in or out of the carriage. This is no cheap horse, but a first-class family horse in every way; this is no humbug; this horse is just as represented, safe and kind, and the only reason I part with him is I am going away. I will give the horse free of charge to anyone who buys the carriages, providing he go in the country. I would like some lady to have him. Call at private stable…
